Soooooo sorry for lack of posts lately. Been busy preparing for Miss Thang #2 to arrive. As of last week, we were not prepared but now we are. I mean, mentally we were prepared but logistically? Not so much. I didn't even know where we stashed the car seat when we moved here in November! Now everything has been located and we're ready to roll. Her room is still dark blue but I'm going to have to save the painting for after she arrives. Luckily Architectural Digest is not planning a photo shoot here anytime soon.

For those who need a firm date, the official due date is April 25. But of course, who knows when she'll show up. Could be tonight, could be 3 weeks from now.

In other news, Josie G. is doing great! We've been talking about "Baby Sister" for a while and she's seeing (and helping with) all of the preparations. Tomorrow we're moving Josie's "baby bed" into Baby Sister's room and Josie is going to have to start sleeping in her "big girl bed" which is going to be much better. There's just not enough room in the baby bed for Josie, her 12 blankets (still calling them "monkeys"), panda bear, pink bear, birdie, duckie, bear head, and two big stacks of books

The weather has been teasing us - giving us a nice day here and there and then getting cold again. Today was nice enough for Josie to do yard work so she and her assistant got outside, raked, spread mulch and put down seed.

We're so excited to announce that the Beaufort Community Cat Project is our May FURPOWER recipient!

The Beaufort Community Cat Project (http://beaufortcats.org) is an all-volunteer organization advocating non lethal methods to reduce the free-roaming cat population using Trap-Neuter-Return. They are a charitable non-profit organization with federal tax exempt status, 501(c)(3).

In honor of today, I've dug into the archives to share with you photos of Pug and moi at our furriest. You've probably only known us when we have shorter hair because my female staff manager is allergic and unfortunately, less furry, fuzzy, fabulous fur means less stuffy nose for her. And, honestly, fewer stupid hairballs. But now that we have the FURminator Pugs and I think we might remain a little floofier.

Now, onto the educational portion of today's post. With peak shedding season underway, we furry guys are in full swing when it comes to grooming ourselves, which means an increase in hairballs.

FURminator has offered the following tips for preventing and caring for those nasty, ooky hairballs!

1. Regular Grooming: Hairballs occur when cats over groom. To help cats look and feel their best, it’s essential to regularly brush them. The FURminator deShedding Tool for Cats is recommended by vets and nominated by Tufts University School of Veterinarian Medicine as the number one product to reduce hairballs in cats. Using the tool on a regular basis, as well as the FURminator deShedding Shampoo for Cats, will help reduce shedding, thus reducing the amount of hair your cat ingests.

2. Home Remedies: Try adding a little butter and canned pumpkin to your cat’s meals once or twice a week. The butter may loosen the hair clod and the fiber in the pumpkin can help move it through the system.

3. Stay Hydrated: Encourage your cat to drink plenty of water by placing various bowls throughout the house. The water will help flush out the hair before it has time to clump in the stomach.

4. Consult Your Vet: If you believe you cat has chronic hairball problems, ask your veterinarian to recommend a laxative supplement to help prevent ingested hairs from forming hairballs.

We're Two Wild and Crazy Cats!

The nice people at Cardinal Laboratories sent Pugs and me the most AH-mazing toy called the Crazy Cat Cat Quest. OMG is it fun!

This uh, crazy toy is a whirring, buzzing, zipping dragonfly bug thing attached to the end of a string attached to a wand. Pugsley and I thought it was a real bug but the female staff manager said that it was battery operated and she was making its wings flap and go buzz by pushing a button on the handle of the wand. Really?!

Like I said, PUGS thought it was a real bug. I knew it wasn’t.

Real bug or not, we had lots and lots of fun jumping around, running through the house and playing with it. The staff couldn't stop laughing. I think they were laughing with us, not at us though.

One of the best things about the Crazy Cat Cat Quest to me personally is that it's not a real bug! Real bugs kinda scare me a little bit sometimes.

Shh, don't tell.

Pugs and I want to share with you an exciting event happening on Twitter on Sunday, April 5.

Hundreds of pets will be meeting on Twitter to virtually celebrate our friend Brewskie Butt's birthday (that's him to the left), whoop it up with their pals, win prizes and raise money.

The Twitter community’s second “pawpawty” is in honor of popular Twitter cat, @brewskiebutt, who turned five on April 1.

The pawpawty is not just about fun and games, however. The event will also raise funds for my FURPOWER Donation Challenge. Thanks, Brew!

So how exactly does a party on Twitter work? Those participating in the pawpawty end their tweets with “#pawpawty.” Partiers can then follow all of the Twitter comments designated with #pawpawty using Twitter search functionality or by following this link: http://tweetgrid.com/search?q=pawpawty

The #pawpawty will run for 24 hours, from 2 p.m. EDT Sunday April 5 to 2 p.m. EDT Monday, April 6, giving animals all over the world a chance to participate. The organizers have collected more than 50 “door prizes” that they’ll be giving away throughout the party.

April FURPOWER Recipient - Kitten Rescue!

WOW. I'm blown away by the number of submissions we received. You guys sure are a passionate bunch.

I'm excited to announce this month's FURPOWER recipient is Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles!

First of all, I just learned that Kitten Rescue has recently started helping dogs too so all you woofers out there, don't you worry! Your brothers and sisters are included too.

Kitten Rescue is devoted to rescuing cats and kittens from the streets and shelter euthanasia. Approximately eighty percent of our cats are rescued from the Los Angeles City shelters at the "11th hour" right before they are scheduled to be euthanized.

Kitten Rescue also works with the surrounding communities to rescue strays and abandoned cats, and facilitates Trap/Spay-Neuter/Release (TNR) assistance throughout these communities. Kitten Rescue is equally dedicated to educating the public about responsible pet ownership, care of kittens and cats, managing feral cats and most importantly, the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes this educational material available via events, print, school presentations and their Web site.

Congratulations. We're looking forward to another amazing month of raising money for animals in need. Also, lots of fun parties, contests and giveaways are planned, so stay tuned. Where there's a will, there's a way.

So, right. The baby gates are back up on the stairs. I heard something about the staff manager having bad allergies and me not being allowed to sleep on her head anymore. Am not sure what that means, exactly.

All I know is that another barrier to the big comfy bed and good squirrel watching vantage points appeared on the stairs, this time much taller than the one before. Even I am not gutsy enough to jump this one.

However, after a couple of days of consideration, I found the structure's weakness.

Apparently it was all caught on film by a hidden camera.

Considering the task before me.

Grooming, acting cool so they don't know what am up to.

Haha! Bingo!

Am home free! Wonderbed, here I come!

It's been an amazing week! It's only March 22nd and we're already 84 percent of our way to our March FURPOWER goal. It looks like we're going to make it thanks to you guys.

There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon that I'll be sharing with you in the coming weeks! We're going to keep up our FURPOWER campaign to raise money for new rescues/shelters/organizations and Wednesday we'll be asking for your recommendations for our April recipient. Make sure to subscribe to our feed and let your friends know too. The more submissions one organization gets, the better chances it has of being selected in our random drawing.

Also, we will have lots of exciting giveaways and events to keep the fun going (not that raising money for our fuzzy friends isn't fun already!)

5. Watch bald creature warily. Allow it to grab my tail. Pray staff intervenes. WHEW.
6. Sniff top of Pugsley's head.
7. Go to kitchen to check on dinner one more time.
8. Take nap.

I am seriously amazed. Who knew what kinds of things we could accomplish when cats and dogs and those who luv them got together for a good cause? So many anipals have been generous and supportive of my monthly $1 FURPOWER donation challenge.

And, a couple of dogs and a cat got together recently to come up with a really fun way to
get more Twittering pets and their people involved in donations.

I am so excited that after just ONE DAY we are already 15 percent of the way to our FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge goal. Seriously, THANKYOUTHANKYOU to everyone who has generously donated. This will mean a lot to many animals. I am really excited to see what we can do for the next 20 days!

Announcing my FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge!

When the economy is uncertain, people stop donating as much to shelters and rescues. And on top of that, many shelters are taking in more animals because their owners can't afford to keep them or owners lose their homes and they don't know what to do with their pets so they bring them to a shelter. It’s an increasingly difficult situation!

Lots of people (and pets) have told me they want to help with my efforts but things are tight. That gave me an idea: My FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge.

What if all of my blog readers and all of my Twitter followers contributed just ONE DOLLAR to the animal welfare organizations of the month, The Humane Society and Animals in Distress? Imagine what we can do if we each contribute a tiny bit without breaking any of our mousy banks!

I mean, a whole big bag of cat treats is really just a bunch of individual cat treats that got together, right?

AND to make the challenge even more fun, if you make a dollar donation you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a free FURminator deshedding tool from one of my sponsors, FURminator, Inc. deShedding Products.

For your dollar donation, you’ll get one entry. But if you want to donate more than a dollar, for each $5 increment you donate you’ll get another entry into the drawing. So, if you send $5 you’ll get two entries, $10 you’ll get three entries, etc.

If you’ve already pledged a donation, you’ll receive entries in the same manner. Just be sure to send your donation by the end of March!

Bailey's Big Bash

I want to introduce you to a new friend I've made, Bailey the Bichon. She's a super pooper and so, oh cute. Bailey was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and only given a few months to live. Well, guess what? Ms. Bailey is still going strong!

Bailey's 13th b-day is March 11 and to celebrate, her mom is asking everyone to make some sort of donation (money, food or time) to their local rescue group or shelter. Then, on March 11 go to Bailey's blog and share how you celebrated Bailey's birthday or what you pledge to do.

What a GREAT way to party!

HOORAY for the FLUFF!

It’s been a banner week for our efforts, which means a banner week for rescues!

Yesterday we were featured on the Humane Society’s Web site. WOO and HOO!

And…if that wasn’t enough to rouse Pugs out of his afternoon nap, we also were featured on the New York Times Web site! (Pugs did get up eventually and celebrate with me).

Thanks to the Humane Society and Mr. Pogue for helping our cause.

It’s really exciting to be getting this kind of attention for our project. Just think of all the animals out there that we can help. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Oh, wait. I’m that way all the time. Erm…....well, you get the drift.

I’ve been working v. v. hard this week so I’m just going to curl up with Pug here and get some shuteye. G'night!

This I don't understand

I just tweeted about this but I must bring it up again because it just amazes me.

Did you know that Pugsley has to be carried to dinner every night? First, the staff has to go find him and then they CARRY him to his meals! This is just craziness to me. How can he be so blase about dinnertime?!

Me? I am always the one getting the staff up in the morning for breakfast and always the one reminding them it's time to eat dinner. Jeesh. If it weren't for me NO one would eat around here.

That is all I have to say about that.

Animals in Distress is our March Recipient!

I'm soooo happy to announce our March donation recipient, Animals in Distress, in Coopersburg, PA. Check them out at www.animalsindistress-pa.org.

Animals in Distress (AID) is a non-profit, tax deductible sanctuary for animals who have little or no hope elsewhere. Its programs are designed to prevent suffering and to save lives. They believe that there is a special home somewhere for every pet if there is enough time to find it. They keep every animal admitted, providing medical care, behavioral rehabilitation, good food, shelter, and, most important of all, love, until a suitable new home can be found.

AID was submitted by John, who volunteers his time performing Reiki on the animals there.

Animals in Distress will receive 5 cents for each new follower I receive during the month of March, PLUS the generous donations from our matching donors PLUS the generous donations from our corporate sponsors to be announced early next week. I am so, oh oh oh excited to tell you who they are!

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted their fave rescues. Please, please, please submit them each month! We'll be drawing for April on March 31st.

I can't help it. Tuna Fish is my Crack. I crave it. I love it. When I know it's near I start shaking and drooling and meowing uncontrollably.

I'm not proud of this behavior. It's kinda humiliating but GOOD GOD do I LUV ME MY TUNA FISH.

Today the staff served up some fresh fish with lotsa gravy. Delish.

Would be as furry and cute. Oh, wait. That didn't sound quite right. How does it go? Oh, never mind. I'll look it up later.

Anyhoo, yesterday I tweeted about the funny names the staff calls me. I received all kinds of hilarious replies from my Twitter friends so I thought I'd ask my bloggy buddies the same things.

Here are our nicknames:

Me = Mr. Fluffypants (new), BOY, White BOY, Rom, Ro, piggy von piggerson (at dinner) furrybutt, poops, schmoopie.

Pugsley = Pug, Pug-ley, Pugman, Puginator, Black BOY, Black, stinky (only apres litterbox).

Today was my TV debut!

Mam and I got up at the crack of dawn to be guests on the morning news at WXII in Winston-Salem. I was not happy about getting up. In fact, I might have been even crankier than Mam about having to get up so early.

But everyone was so, so nice and happy to have us there to promote my donation drive for the Humane Society and the Persian Rescue. If you're not familiar with my project, I am running a Twitter campaign for charity. For every follower I get on Twitter, I am cracking open my mousey bank and donating 5 cents. I already have a couple of people who have agreed to match my donations.

Strange bug thing has appeared out of no where in living room. I've batted, sniffed, followed, jumped away from it, jumped back up, crouched and stalked it for a moment and batted at it again. Have concluded no threat. Am just confused re: what in TARnation kind of animal it thinks it is.

The Creature

So, a few months ago the staff brought home a strange, furless, presumably hypoallergenic new creature.

Luckily Pugsley and I had the good sense not to hiss at her or jeopardize her happiness and well-being in any way 'cause my parents seem to really like her and it appears that she's here to stay.

She's not that bad but MAN is she loud.

Anyway, here is a picture of me tolerating the creature even though you can see she has a fistful of my fur.

And for the record, I was in the Pack 'n Play first. I'm just sayin'.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I think it's fitting that I launch this blog on Valentine's Day. Not just because of my name (DUH) or the fact that I have a heart-shaped marking on my side, but because I bring SO much love to my family. I want other animals to have the same thing.

So my brother Pugsley and I are on a mission to raise money for animal welfare organizations.

Even though I had a tough time of it until I found my current home, I am still the most loving boy evah!

I am very, very happy and in my house, Pug and I pretty much run the show.

My parents adopted me on December 1, 2005. But months earlier, when I came to the rescue via a shelter in Kentucky, I was completely deaf in both ears! Thanks to the wonderful vets who donate time to The Forgotten Persian Rescue & Friends, I had 8 surgeries on my ears to correct the problem. I now have one ear that is folded down permanently but I think it gives me character. And it was worth it because now I can hear just fine!

I live here with Pugsley, (in the photo below). He also came from The Forgotten Persian Rescue & Friends via a shelter in Indianapolis.

Even though I hissed at Pugsley the first day he came to live with us a couple of years ago, now I love him! In fact, I might love him a little more than he loves me. Oh well.

We are v. happy with our parents and love to eat, sleep and run through the house as a unit. My parents call us "Team Persian."

We want other animals to find homes like Pugman and I have so I hope you will join our cause!
