Hi everyone!
GREAT job raising money this month for Animals in Distress. The grand total will be close to $1,300 including on and off-line donations. THANK YOU!
Now it's time to select another organization to help in April.
Please comment below with the name of the rescue organization or shelter you'd like to submit into our drawing. It needs to be a U.S. organization, an official non-profit (designated 501 C3 but most are) and has to include cats in its efforts. Make sure to leave your email address, link to your site or twitter handle so I can contact you if your organization wins!
We'll be taking submissions through March 31 and doing our random drawing and announcing the winner on April 1.
Here's how to increase the chances of your favorite being selected:
1. Tell your friends to come here and comment! The more submissions for your organization, the better chance you have of winning.
2. Subscribe to this blog and leave an additional comment telling me you did!
3. Tweet about this campaign and leave a comment telling me you did (with your twitter handle).
4. Blog about this on your blog! And leave a comment linking to your post.
Pugs and I are so, so, so, so excited to help another wonderful organization help more animals.
Email me with questions at romeo at romeothecat dot com.
xo!

I vote for the Central Texas SPCA! www.centraltexasspca.org It's a great organization in the Austin, TX area (one of the worst parts of the country in terms of kill-rates for city shelters, http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/01/14/0114nokill.html) The people at the CTSPCA are wonderful and provide a great home-like environment for stray cats and dogs. Each animal stays there until it finds its forever family. In fact, a cat was recently finally adopted after being there for 2 years! They also have a nice Twitter feed @centraltxspca.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They're a great foundation that takes in homeless cats and finds good homes for them. They have a website: http://kittenrescue.org/home.php and are on twitter: http://twitter.com/KittenRescue
ReplyDeleteAnd I tweeted about your campaign: http://twitter.com/robinelaine/status/1390422095
My local no-kill shelter is awesome! Heart of the Valley in Bozeman Montana. They just moved into a new building awhile back (they were in trailors for many many years) and I know they could still use financial help! They are www.heartofthevalleyshelter.org.
ReplyDeleteI suggest the group I work with, The Animal Center, in Newtown, CT. http://www.theanimalcenter.org We do TNR of feral cats and help homeless stray cats, too. In our few years in operation we have already saved almost 1000 animals. We really need some help to grow!
ReplyDeleteI also suggest a Twitter-pal, Kat5 Animal Rescue. They're doing a Benefit in April and could use our support, too!
http://kat5animalrescue.blogspot.com/
Thank you for your consideration! :-)
I vote for Kitten Rescue Los Angeles. They are a great organization and could certainly use the help. THANKS!
ReplyDeleteI want to nominate Rude Ranch in Harwood, MD. They are an incredible ni-kill sheter with lots of wonderfull cats. http://www.ruderanch.org/
ReplyDeleteSpecialty Purebred Cat Rescue! They do awesome work for a myriad of cats & rescue a lot of their cats from kill shelters!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.purebredcatrescue.org/
I second Blackeyedgurl: Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue!
ReplyDeleteThey do great work!
My vote is also for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. It's a fabulous group of people that gives a lot of love and care to a lot of kitties.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted about your campaign on https://twitter.com/BedazzleCats
Thanks for the consideration and for your efforts to help kitties >^..^<
Stephanie Litchfield
I also nominate Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. Kitten Rescue saves approximately 1,000 cats in the Los Angeles area every year. It encourages education about good pet care and helps facilitate TNR.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted about your campaign on https://twitter.com/srwolk
Central Texas SPCA in Austin, TX- as your first person said, we are a shelter focused on animals first. We are no kill, have been in operation for over 20 years and have placed thousands of animals with loving homes. I am a member of the board and also the face behind both our twitter feeds (@centraltxspca) and our facebook pages. Please pick us, follow us and become our friend on FB!
ReplyDeleteCentral TX SPCA! I volenteered last fall and ended up adopting one of thier cats. Not only do they take top rate care of thier animals, like mentioned above, but they also carefully select adoptors through an interview process. I've adopted many pets before, from both pounds and no-kill shelters, but I've never had to prove I was a good pet owner up front. It's a fantastic way to break the cycle of animals ending up back at the shelter.

ReplyDeleteJust adopted a little furbaby from them & they are GREAT!
stacymm (from Twitter)!
Going to RT your Tweet! Love ya Romeo! :)
I vote for Classy Cats, a cat rescue group in the Keller area. They rescue cats from shelters, homeless cats, or from those who can longer care for their pet. They work hard to socialize and find the kitties lifetime homes. http://classycats.org/
ReplyDeleteI"m gaylac from twitter. thanks!
Let me add my support for Central Texas SPCA (Leander, TX). Not only are they a no-kill shelter, but the staff there makes extraordinary efforts to screen adoption applicants, to educate their adoptive families about pet behavior and proper pet care, and to ensure the best matches possible between pets and new owners. They operate on a shoestring, and deserve all the support they can get!
ReplyDeleteI also vote for Central Texas SPCA! They are really concerned with finding the right home for the pets!
ReplyDeleteMy Vote is for the Central Texas SPCA, a wonderful no-kill shelter who desperately need more funds.

I'm for Central Texas SPCA. Great organization making a difference for pets!
ReplyDeleteCentral Texas SPCA!
ReplyDeleteAnothe for Central Texas SPCA - they are pushing this hard on FB and Twitter. They really need the money and are embracing their community with great communication!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Infinite Hope, a New York all-volunteer cat rescue group affiliated with Hope Veterinary Clinic. This is a great organization that solely depends on dontaions and is in a dire need of them to allow for proper animal care.
ReplyDeleteThis is Infinite Hope's web page (a new website is in the works):

ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue nominates itself! KR is a non-profit 501c3 based in southern California and runs a no-kill sanctuary in Los Angeles. KR facilitates TNR and is always in need of donations, but especially during these difficult economic times!
ReplyDeleteWe have tweeted about this contest @kittenrescue.
I'm for Central Texas SPCA. I visit there whenever I can. They don't confine their cats to small cages. They have a great environment for the cats while they are waiting to be matched with a new home.
ReplyDeletei vote for Central Texas SPCA. they are great. They keep wonderful care of their animals and always find the perfect home for them.

I nominate New Beginnings for Animals located in Mission Viejo, CA. They are a fantastic rescue that has multiple cats up for adoption and does a lot of great work to save cats and kittens from euthanization at shelters.

ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!!!! They are comitted to saving animals from shelters and finding pets the loving home they deserve!!!! Go New Beginnings!!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue... they are the best!
ReplyDeleteI vote new beginnings for animals!
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue to be the April Furpower receipient. I know people that work with this rescue organization and they put their whole hearts into their work. Go Kitten Rescue!!
ReplyDeleteI got my wonderful kitties from two different locations, both of which are great nominees. The Los Angeles County Animal Shelter in Agoura Hills tries very very hard to be a no kill shelter for all of its animals, to the extent it has added a room for the "older residents" in the cat area where they are no longer caged up. The fund cut backs in CA and particularly LA county may make it difficult for them to maintain this policy. I got my other two from Helping Persian Cats - which rescues Persians, Himalayans and similar breeds, fosters them until homes can be found and regularly holds adoptions to find these great kitties homes.
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue in Los Angeles!!
ReplyDeleteI vote Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles! Not only does KR rescue over 1,000 cats a year, but they also train the public at the Los Angeles City Animal Control how to care for neo-natal kittens who would otherwise be killed. GO KITTEN RESCUE!
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue Los Angeles.
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings fro Animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals.
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteI also vote for New Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Kitten Rescue. I think they place about 1000 homeless cats in fabulous homes each year. They really have their act together, so we'll know that our donations will be used wisely - and ALL for the animals!!!
ReplyDeleteI know there's lots of worthy groups out there. Thanks Romeo, for helping them out :) One of the best I've come across is Kitten Rescue. They help cats mainly, but dogs too. I've heard fabulous things about them.
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue is the BOMB Romeo, your help would be greatly appreciated by them and all that cats they save every year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the consideration,
M.
I vote for Kitten Rescue in LA.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. These folks are wonderful, and they rescue and find homes for so very many cats and kittens. They also help dogs (ssshhh...don't tell the kitties!). Please consider this worthy cause. Kitten Rescue rocks!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Infinite Hope too -- I'm a volunteer and currently fostering 2 adorable kittens from them. We rescue from the "sick room" of nyc animal control, so the vet bills add up fast!! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals.
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue for the win!!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Kitten Rescue Los Angeles!!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. Lots of good work being done by these people with just the best intentions and wishes for their animals. they are deserving and will bring a lot of good to the kitties out there!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angels. I've never met a more dedicated and wonderful group of people who are passionate about animal rescue.
ReplyDeletewww.kittenrescue.org
With storms of all sorts going on all over the country, and at the beginning of severe weather season, I want to bring to everyone's attention Noah's Wish. I first heard of them in the aftermath of Katrina and personally try to make a donation every year. Their only mission is to rescue and shelter pets in disaster areas throughout the US and Canada.
ReplyDeletewww.noahswish.org
I would like to vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. These people will do anything it takes to improve the lives of their animals.
ReplyDeleteNew Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue in LA!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love Kitten Rescue, a rescue group serving Los Angeles and Southern California. They do great work!
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue! We adopted our black cat Leopard from them a year and a half ago, then kept going back to that store adoption site to visit the other kitties. We recently started volunteering at their cat sanctuary. My favorite thing to do is visit with the FeLV+ cats who are kept in separate quarters for their protection. Mr. Classic, Snuggles, Olivia and Bart love to hang out with my daughter and in my lap and get lots of pats.
ReplyDeletevote for kitten rescue, the vollenteers want the best for their fosters
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for Kitten Rescue right here! It's a great organization with dedicated volunteers.. though I'm sure all the others are too. :') Thanks for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI vote Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. I've seen just how much the volunteers care for their super special kitties.
ReplyDeletei vote new beginnings for animals!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue. That is because not only do they rescue kittens but they rescue "more mature cats" This is very important.
ReplyDeleteWe have cats that are very adoptable and live in our Casitas Shelter and are taken home to different volunteers if they seem healthy and ready to adopt. We have feral cats that are cared for as carefully as our domestic cats and are sometime adopted under strict guidelines to help people maintain their homes and businesses keeping them free of rodents. Of course they are fed and cared for as well!
We have cared for HIV and other cats with chronic illnesses that seem healthy but are not adoptable. Then of course we have a whole cadre of foster Mom's and Dads for our kittens to socialize them and make them just ready for you to take home micro-chipped and neutered :-) Hope you will contact us to visit our adoption locations and see our wonderful cats and kittens on www.kittenrescue.com We are Located in Los Angeles
i vote for new beginnings for animals!
ReplyDeleteWow, Romeo isn't running about impregnating feral cats, is he? Just kidding; he looks like my (now adopted) foster kitten Ruby, even has the orange dot on his back :)
ReplyDeletehttp://picasaweb.google.com/lmahanay/Ruby#
Kitten Rescue
I vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They take great care of their rescue cats. Helping the public learn to fix their cats and keep them indoors is primary. All cats deserve to live in a safe place, including those with the FeLV virus (known as Leukemia), wild cats, and kitties with behaviors people don't usually like. Kitten Rescue holds adoptions at many local pet stores each week. Visit them at KittenRescue.org, and on MySpace, YouTube, and Twitter. Every donation dollar goes to the cats (a few K9's, too).
ReplyDeletePlease help the Central Texas SPCA. It was the first no-kill shelter in our county and it offers really wonderful home-like shelters for the dogs and cats (especially cool, big, condos for the cats!) Jeanette C./Leander, TX
ReplyDeleteOk I dont know if you are willing to donate to animals in the UK. However I really admire the charity dogsindistress.org which rescues dogs from the pound which will be put down and helps them find loving new homes. They are a wonderful organisation which deserves help!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They are awsome and help save a lot of needy and homeless kitties even with FIV and FELV. They do great work.
ReplyDeleteCentral Texas SPCA, Leander, Texas. Without them, I would have never found my precious Chita.
ReplyDeletefrom @labRus
ReplyDeleteI nominate Briggs Animal Adoption Center in Charles Town, WV. They are a no-kill shelter and rescue both dogs and cats.
http://www.baacs.org/
I posted your article on my blog
http://yournaturalpet.wordpress.com/
Good luck with your April donations!
sorry, got my twitter name wrong above. should be @labsRus
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I would like to submit the Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary (www.hcws.org)
ReplyDeleteWe have been serving Southern Nevada for nine years with animal rescue and aggressive spay/neuter program. We spay/neuter 8,000 homeless, feral and owned pet annually. With the very slow economy things are getting tough and we don't want to cut services. A donation would be very helpful.
Central Texas SPCA is a wonderful shelter - a very compassionate no-kill shelter that does great things ... like taking animals from other shelters when there's space, keeping those they take in until they're adopted, etc etc. Its a small low-tech shelter but a wonderful one! One kitty - Amos (who has a little bit of an attitude) has been there for years, and has sort of become the mascot! They're a great shelter and could really use your help.
ReplyDeleteCENTRAL TEXAS SPCA is the place, they care as if it each was there own pets. Their is a lot of care giving at this shelter. Kittens, puppies and the older ones have one thing in common, much attention and love.
ReplyDeleteI vote New Beginnings for Animals!!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to cast my vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They're a great organization with a sanctuary and a huge community foster program. They place over 1000 cats every year and could really use the fundraising! You can find them at: http://kittenrescue.org/home.php and on Twitter: http://twitter.com/KittenRescue and Facebook, too! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kitten-Rescue/115219435429
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Infinite Hope. I first learned about it through my partner's involvement, and it's a great cause. Thanks, Igor http://www.infinitehopeonline.org/
ReplyDeleteI vote for central texas S.P.C.A
ReplyDeleteI vote New Beginnings for Animals! They have been saving cats and dogs from kill shelters and put them in loving homes since 2000. Their love for animals is infectious and this would help them so much!!! I believe they deserve it!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for LA's Kitten Rescue here. (And thanks to Romeo and Pugsley for the great work they are doing to bring awareness and funds to the rescue community!!)
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue, in Los Angeles, please, please, please! We've adopted all of our kitties through their organization, have been involved in adoption events, TNR situations, and have volunteered our time to just take care of some of the lucky kitties being fostered by KR. There are some amazing, dedicated, self-less people involved in their organization, and I can't imagine our household without the blessings they have bestowed upon us.
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the Central Texas SPCA. It's a no-kill shelter that services the Austin and surrounding areas of Texas. The cats live in suites with several beds, climbing poles, hidey holes, and toys. The dogs all have beds and toys. Everyone is indoors and the dogs get to go outside daily in large pens where they can play and interact with each other. The outside pens are partially shaded, have toys, and wading pools in the hot summers. They keep the animals healthy and find them responsible homes. They're funded entirely from private donations and need all the help they can get.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Central Texas SPCA in Leander, Tx. They go the extra mile to make sure their animals find their true, forever families! They helped me find my boy "Larston".
ReplyDeletehttp://www.twitter.com/txleggz
another vote for ct spca in leander texas. i foster for them whenever i can and they are there when the fur babes need them...they are the bomb, they are "sweet", they are hot, they are the shelter of all shelters.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in LA. They have the most amazing kitty sanctuary with almost 200 cats there. And in addition they manage about 800 cats in foster care. They do not shy away from the cats with serious medical issues, the sanctuary has a whole section for kitties that are FELV positive. They do such good work.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to vote for the Central Texas SPCA in, well, Central Texas. But I am happy to see any rescue get this award! Thanks for doing this, awesome work.
ReplyDeleteWe vote for C.A.R.E. (Cat Adoption And Rescue Efforts, Inc.) It's a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the rehabilitation, care, and adoption of cats and kittens rescued from euthanizing animal shelters in the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area. And they've got heart -- they even help woofies when they can. Our vet works for them at a way discounted cost but sometimes, like Newman who you can see on the front page, it still costs a lot to save kitties. We donate stuff and green papers to them whenever we can. We'd love to see them get this help! But we wouldn't cry if another got it either cuz well places all ofur needs help. You're super for doin all this Romeo!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue:
ReplyDeletehttp://kittenrescue.org/home.php
I'd like to nominate Companions For Life. They provide humane education and shelter outreach in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. They educate children about pet responsibility, respect and compassion. Humane education is essential to building a society that places significant value on the role of companion animals. A lot of their work is with low-income, underserved children - they are the only organization of its kind in the area. They also provide educational materials, continuing education classes and networking events for the wonderful shelter workers and rescue group volunteers in our area. Their goal "No More Disposable Pets". Visit http://www.companionsforlife.org, read the blog at http://companionsforlife.blogspot.com/, or

ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. A no kill shelter, with volunteers who also foster so we can save more cats. The people are great, as is the cause. They also started taking in dogs, despite the name :)
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They're a grassroots agency that rehailitates, rescues and finds homes for unwanted cats and kittens in LA. They have a website: http://kittenrescue.org/home.php and are on twitter: http://twitter.com/KittenRescue
ReplyDeleteI vote for the Central Texas SPCA, a great place where animals are well treated and kept in a clean and friendly environment until they get adopted. It is well organized and filled with loving and reponsible people. Here is is their Web site:
ReplyDeleteI would also vote for Central Texas SPCA.. And I live in New Jersey! The staff is so dedicated at this no-kill shelter that volunteers drove with our adopted boy Chewbacca (135 pound Mastiff, no less) from Austin TX and met us in Nashville Tennessee, half way from our home in Princeton NJ. Without these people, we wouldn't have this wonderful and loving addition to our home. We will be forever grateful and I consider them worthy recepients!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the Central Texas SPCA. I used to volunteer there years ago and got two great dogs from there, one of which just passed away at the ripe old age of 19 1/2!

ReplyDeleteI vote for the Central Dakato Humane Society http://www.cdhs.net/ who are a no kill shelter caring for pets until they find a home. Pets include cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets.
Already under pressure, they have had an influx of animals due to the flooding.
While all the shelters are worthy recipients, I feel this shelter is in particular need of our support this month.
From @EmmytheCat (Twitter account)
I vote for Kitten Rescue LA! They totally rock!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the spelling on my recommendation on my previous comment.
ReplyDeleteMy recommended recipient is the Central Dakota Humane Society which is a no kill shelter serving a wide area and provides a safe haven and adoption center for dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, etc. Check them out http://www.cdhs.net/aboutus.htm

I vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. I adopted two cats from them and would take one of their dogs, if I had a yard. They are wonderful. They've also helped me TNR a couple of strays over the years.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for Kitten Rescue. Working in a large, multi cultural society like Los Angeles is a daunting endeavor and Kitten Rescue has successfully spayed, neutered, TNRed, and rehomed thousands of cats and kittens over the 18 years they have been rescuing cats. Cudos to them and their excellent volunteer team.!!!
ReplyDeleteI also vote for Kitten Rescue! They do excellent work!
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue in Los Angeles!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Lake Norman Lucky Cat. They work closely with Friends for Life. Together they have saved hundreds of cats here in the Lake Norman area. Very dedicated volunteers.
ReplyDeleteI, too, vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. They do amazing work and the number of cats they place and help is awe inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Central Texas SPCA. They are a great group and really deserve the money. I know some of the people involved and I'm sure they will let me know if they receive the donation. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. There are countless unwanted animals in our city and they have rescued many of them. But there are so many more that need our help!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles.
ReplyDeleteKitten Rescue in LA is a fantastic group that places 1000 cats per year in safe forever homes. They also go to great lengths to keep all of the kitties in residence at their sanctuary in great health. They also care for them all as if they are their own and give them lots of love. This is on very limited resources!! They could do many much needed things with that money!
ReplyDeleteI vote for New Beginnings for Animals!

ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who have become involved in such causes!
First time visit to your blog, but I can't think of a better organization than Kitten Rescue in the Los Angeles area.
ReplyDeleteHi Romeo! Just came over to put in a vote for "It's Meow or Never". You can check out their web page here: http://www.itsmeowornever.org/
ReplyDeleteThey are a small rescue so being chosen as a donation recipient would make a big difference to them.
My vote is Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. Not only are they a great foundation that takes in homeless cats and finds good homes for them, they work with TNR of feral cats. Visit them at www.kittenrescue.org
ReplyDeleteI vote for Kitten Rescue in LA! They are awesome and really devoted to helping so many cats!

ReplyDeleteI nominate Companions for Life, a Dallas-based non-profit dedicated to humane education. They rock.
ReplyDeleteCompanions for Life is my nomination.
ReplyDeleteCentral Texas SPCA in Leander, TX. I volunteered with them for years before my children were born and I can't wait to go back once this last baby is old enough to drag along. They genuinely love every animal that comes through their door, and their shelter is SO in need of funds for maintenance and renovation.
ReplyDeleteDid the extra credit, I'm now a follower of Romeo's blog :) Please throw the extra credit points towards Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles!!
ReplyDeleteRomeo, did I mention that you're pretty handsome when you make your excited face?? ;) lol
Good Luck to all, whichever organization wins, the most important thing is that animals will be the real winners.

ReplyDeleteI vote for It's Meow or Never--http://www.itsmeowornever.org. They have had a really, really hard winter and could use some support. They work very hard to take care of the babies in their care, and the obstacles have been unbelievable.

My vote goes to Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles. The volunteers are hard working, and take great pains to make sure that their cats are placed in homes where the owner and the cat are a good match. We've even adopted one of our foster kitties, Cletus, because he was just so damn adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI also nominate It's Meow or Never, they are so wonderful to the kitties they help and could really use the funds http://itsmeowornever.org
