LAST DAY to enter for April recipient!

I know I don't LOOK excited, but I am. (This IS my excited look!) Today is the last day of March which means you have until 6 p.m. EST to enter your favorite animal rescue to be our April donation recipient. We'll be doing our drawing this evening and announcing the winner tomorrow morning.

Leave a comment here telling me what organization you'd like to be our recipient. Please include your name and contact info (email, web site or twitter handle). And please one entry person/pet please unless you do the extra credit (see my March 25th post below for how to get extra entries).

And new today, EXTRA EXTRA credit. If you sign up to follow this blog (scroll down the right hand side to "Romeo's Followers" and hit the "follow" button) you will receive TWO extra entries. But you have to leave a comment and tell me you are now following.

WOO HOO for FURPOWER! xo!

Just one addition

Wow! Great response. I can't wait until we draw the winner!

A couple of things: if you are commenting as "Anonymous," please leave your name, email, twitter handle, anything to distinguish you so I can let you know if your organization wins!

And I probably don't need to say this but one vote per person/animal please. I'm trusting no one will abuse my "honor system!"

Lots of xoxos!

Who will be our April donation recipient?

Hi everyone!

GREAT job raising money this month for Animals in Distress. The grand total will be close to $1,300 including on and off-line donations. THANK YOU!

Now it's time to select another organization to help in April.

Please comment below with the name of the rescue organization or shelter you'd like to submit into our drawing. It needs to be a U.S. organization, an official non-profit (designated 501 C3 but most are) and has to include cats in its efforts. Make sure to leave your email address, link to your site or twitter handle so I can contact you if your organization wins!

We'll be taking submissions through March 31 and doing our random drawing and announcing the winner on April 1.

Here's how to increase the chances of your favorite being selected:

1. Tell your friends to come here and comment! The more submissions for your organization, the better chance you have of winning.
2. Subscribe to this blog and leave an additional comment telling me you did!
3. Tweet about this campaign and leave a comment telling me you did (with your twitter handle).
4. Blog about this on your blog! And leave a comment linking to your post.

Pugs and I are so, so, so, so excited to help another wonderful organization help more animals.

Email me with questions at romeo at romeothecat dot com.

xo!

R & P

Where there's a will, there's a way.

So, right. The baby gates are back up on the stairs. I heard something about the staff manager having bad allergies and me not being allowed to sleep on her head anymore. Am not sure what that means, exactly.

All I know is that another barrier to the big comfy bed and good squirrel watching vantage points appeared on the stairs, this time much taller than the one before. Even I am not gutsy enough to jump this one.

However, after a couple of days of consideration, I found the structure's weakness.

Apparently it was all caught on film by a hidden camera.

Considering the task before me.

Grooming, acting cool so they don't know what am up to.

Haha! Bingo!

Am home free!
Wonderbed, here I come!

The moral: when one is highly motivated and has lots of strategic thinking time, anything is possible!

Tall drink of water.

So....you say this is not my water, but how can that be? It's a perfect fit.

Well, doesn't really matter. Mine now.

FURPOWER Update

It's been an amazing week! It's only March 22nd and we're already 84 percent of our way to our March FURPOWER goal. It looks like we're going to make it thanks to you guys.

We'll be announcing our FURminator winner on April 2.

The #pawpawty on Twitter on Tuesday was awesome. Check out @emmythecat's photo wall all of the amazing participants below. Thank you so much to everyone who came to the party and donated throughout the week.

There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon that I'll be sharing with you in the coming weeks! We're going to keep up our FURPOWER campaign to raise money for new rescues/shelters/organizations and Wednesday we'll be asking for your recommendations for our April recipient. Make sure to subscribe to our feed and let your friends know too. The more submissions one organization gets, the better chances it has of being selected in our random drawing.

Also, we will have lots of exciting giveaways and events to keep the fun going (not that raising money for our fuzzy friends isn't fun already!)

If you have any ideas for cool events, giveaways or promotions, let me know. Email me at romeo at romeothecat dot com.

Here's to another great week for FURPOWER!

To Do Today.

1. Take nap.
2. Go to kitchen to see if dinner is being served early for some reason.
3. Sniff cat toy. Paw to see if it moves. Continue on.
4. Sit in front of female staff manager and look at her.
5. Watch bald creature warily. Allow it to grab my tail. Pray staff intervenes. WHEW.
6. Sniff top of Pugsley's head.
7. Go to kitchen to check on dinner one more time.
8. Take nap.

Pugs does Pilates

If you're wondering what Pugsley does all day while I'm busy fundraising, the answer is napping. Or strengthening his core.

FURPOWER works!!

I am seriously amazed. Who knew what kinds of things we could accomplish when cats and dogs and those who luv them got together for a good cause? So many anipals have been generous and supportive of my monthly $1 FURPOWER donation challenge.

And, a couple of dogs and a cat got together recently to come up with a really fun way to
get more Twittering pets and their people involved in donations.

Twitter pals @frugaldougal, @emmythecat and @fergusthedog are encouraging all pets to don their St. Patty's Day hats and donate to the Animals in Distress cause!

Check out the details here: http://frugaldougaldog.blogspot.com/

Thanks to their efforts in raising awareness and the FUN-o-meter, we are now at 47 percent of our monthly goal! Thank you guys. And thank you to everyone who has donated and continues to donate.

Here are some of the hat-wearing pets who have donated so far! THANK YOU!

MEOWSER WOWSER, you guys!

I am so excited that after just ONE DAY we are already 15 percent of the way to our FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge goal. Seriously, THANKYOUTHANKYOU to everyone who has generously donated. This will mean a lot to many animals. I am really excited to see what we can do for the next 20 days!

Now, onto other fun things. I happened to take this photo right before Pugsley took off like a bat out of Hell across the room. I don't know what could have made him run off like that....do you?

Announcing my FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge!

When the economy is uncertain, people stop donating as much to shelters and rescues. And on top of that, many shelters are taking in more animals because their owners can't afford to keep them or owners lose their homes and they don't know what to do with their pets so they bring them to a shelter. It’s an increasingly difficult situation!

Lots of people (and pets) have told me they want to help with my efforts but things are tight. That gave me an idea: My FURPOWER $1 Donation Challenge.

What if all of my blog readers and all of my Twitter followers contributed just ONE DOLLAR to the animal welfare organizations of the month, The Humane Society and Animals in Distress? Imagine what we can do if we each contribute a tiny bit without breaking any of our mousy banks!

I mean, a whole big bag of cat treats is really just a bunch of individual cat treats that got together, right?

AND to make the challenge even more fun, if you make a dollar donation you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a free FURminator deshedding tool from one of my sponsors, FURminator, Inc. deShedding Products.

For your dollar donation, you’ll get one entry. But if you want to donate more than a dollar, for each $5 increment you donate you’ll get another entry into the drawing. So, if you send $5 you’ll get two entries, $10 you’ll get three entries, etc.

If you’ve already pledged a donation, you’ll receive entries in the same manner. Just be sure to send your donation by the end of March!

So, click on the "donate" button in the upper right corner of this page to make donating as easy as it is to make Pugsley take a nap.

OR

Whip out an envelope and slip a buck into it along with your email address and/or Twitter handle (so we can enter you in the drawing and then contact you if you win) stamp it and send to:

Romeo the Cat
P.O. Box 57
Huntersville, NC 28070-0057

(If you want to receive a receipt from the organization, please make a check out to either HSUS or Animals in Distress.)

I’ll batch all of the mailed donations, split them up and send to these two organizations at the end of the month.

Just imagine how far our FURPOWER can go! I’m so excited to see what we can do together!

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to email me at goodboyromeo@gmail.com.

Shiny! Dangly!

There are two things in life that I cannot resist: Tuna and shiny, dangly things. Here, the staff is trying to mesmerize me (it's clearly working) with big gold balls on a string.

Are ya kiddin' me with this? BatbatbatbatbatbatCHOMP!

Bailey's Big Bash

I want to introduce you to a new friend I've made, Bailey the Bichon. She's a super pooper and so, oh cute. Bailey was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and only given a few months to live. Well, guess what? Ms. Bailey is still going strong!

Bailey's 13th b-day is March 11 and to celebrate, her mom is asking everyone to make some sort of donation (money, food or time) to their local rescue group or shelter. Then, on March 11 go to Bailey's blog and share how you celebrated Bailey's birthday or what you pledge to do.

What a GREAT way to party!

Pugsley and I have been brainstorming about what WE are going to do for our local shelter.....we'll let you know!

Go Bailey!

Romeo

HOORAY for the FLUFF!

It’s been a banner week for our efforts, which means a banner week for rescues!

Yesterday we were featured on the Humane Society’s Web site. WOO and HOO!

And…if that wasn’t enough to rouse Pugs out of his afternoon nap, we also were featured on the New York Times Web site! (Pugs did get up eventually and celebrate with me).

Thanks to the Humane Society and Mr. Pogue for helping our cause.

It’s really exciting to be getting this kind of attention for our project. Just think of all the animals out there that we can help. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Oh, wait. I’m that way all the time. Erm…....well, you get the drift.

I’ve been working v. v. hard this week so I’m just going to curl up with Pug here and get some shuteye. G'night!

XO,

Romeo & Pugsley

Announcing our Sponsors!

I am so excited to introduce two wonderful, fabulous, MEOWvelous companies who have agreed to sponsor my efforts! These two companies really, really love animals and make terrific products to make us furry guys happier and healthier. Pugsley and I use both of these products and will be giving more in-depth reviews soon.

In the meantime, let’s give our best meows, woofs, chirps, neighs, squeaks and whatever sound you want to make to thank these guys for helping more fluffy friends find homes like we have.

Nature’s Earth Products, the makers of Feline Pine cat litter, the best-selling all natural cat litter.

When Ken Simard, president and founder of Feline Pine, started the company in 1992, he never dreamed that it would grow to become the best-selling brand of natural cat litter in America. But he knew he had found a healthy solution for cats and cat litter when, inspired by a friend in the lumber industry, he tested various substrates and found Southern Yellow Pine to be the best at absorbing moisture and neutralizing odors. And he'd be helping the environment too, as this cat litter is made from kiln-dried shavings reclaimed from lumber production. Feline Pine has a couple of types of litter available as well as some terrific accessories. Visit their Web site at www.naturesproducts.com.

FURminator, Inc., makers of the FURminator deShedding products.

FURminator Inc. enhances relationships between pet owners and their pets with effective and easy-to-use pet grooming products. The company was founded in 2002 by professional groomer,
Angie Porter, and her husband, David. They set out to develop a deshedding tool that would not cut the pet's coat. After numerous designs, they succeeded! Learn more at www.furminator.com.

Thank you both for your generous support of our efforts! You will make a lot of animals very happy.

This I don't understand

I just tweeted about this but I must bring it up again because it just amazes me.

Did you know that Pugsley has to be carried to dinner every night? First, the staff has to go find him and then they CARRY him to his meals! This is just craziness to me. How can he be so blase about dinnertime?!

Me? I am always the one getting the staff up in the morning for breakfast and always the one reminding them it's time to eat dinner. Jeesh. If it weren't for me NO one would eat around here.

That is all I have to say about that.

xo,

Romeo
